Ayurvedic Massage Therapy works on both the physical and mental levels, transmitting a life-giving energy that assists all of the systems of the body
to repair and renew themselves. Ayurvedic massage practitioners concentrate
on the marmas—which are subtle energy points (like in Shiatsu or reflexology)
that respond to gentle physical manipulation—and work with the needs of the
different body types.
Herbalized Oil Application—Abhyanga
Warm herbal oil massage that reduces stress and revitalizes the body.
This treatment is deeply relaxing yet invigorating.
This is a comprehensive and soothing oil massage, which is carried out by
a synchronized team of two technicians. The oil application uses herbalized
oils prescribed to suit your individual needs. The treatment promotes the
penetration of oil deep into the tissues so that impurities are loosened and
separated from the cell structure.
Relaxation Therapy—Shirodhara
A soothing, continuous stream of warm organic herbal oil is gently and
slowly poured across the forehead and over the third eye, rolling gently
through the hair and off the scalp into a catch-basin below the massage table.
This ancient Ayurvedic rejuvenative therapy profoundly relaxes the nervous
system and improves the memory. It removes mental tension, gives calmness
and clarity, and settles and balances the nervous system—the majja dhatu.
The effect is delightful, and many of our clients experience profound relaxation,
meditative states, and emotional cleansing during the treatment.
Ayurvedic Herbal Facial
A luxuriously soothing, calming, and revitalizing ayurvedic facial acupressure
(marma point) massage, this relieves stress and strain and helps to dissolve
wrinkles. Therapies involve herbal massage of neck, shoulders, face, scalp,
hands, and feet. The organic ayurvedic herbal substances help to safely cleanse,
remove toxins, and nurture the skin and muscles.
Basti's
Basti means a container, or bladder, for oil to sit in for a period of time.
Kati Basti
A trough made of dough is placed in the indicated area, and warm oil is poured in. The oil will soak into the affected are, as the therapist will continue to replenish
the basti with warm oil. As the oil seeps deep into the area—for instance, a
degenerative spine—the client will start to feel some relief, and more movement
will occur. Kati basti's are indicated for backache, sciatica,
P.I.D. (protrusion of intravertebral disk), and spondylitis (cervical & lumbar).
